Ghana is Western African country bordering the Gulf of Guinea, lying between borders Côte d'Ivoire and Togo, and Burkina Faso. Formed from the merger of the British colony of the Gold Coast and the Togoland trust territory, Ghana in 1957 became the first sub-Saharan country in colonial Africa to gain its independence.
Ghana is a divided into 10 regions, subdivided into a total of 138 districts. The regions are:
